Back in 2019, I traveled to New York City and put together a photo collage where I mixed two expired films to capture this stirring image, 88 Minutes in Chinatown.

The photo did reasonably well for itself during Competition Season 2019, getting on the walls of the New York State Fair Art Center. But that was about it.
Fast forward to 2023. I’m perusing the former Twitter, and I see that one of the people I follow – Betty Aberlin – shared an online art and photography magazine, Fowl Feathered Revue. And yes, that’s the same Betty Aberlin from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. Anyway … I read the magazine and enjoyed what I saw … so much so, in fact, that I contacted Betty Aberlin and asked if she knew how to get in touch with the magazine’s publisher, with the goal of maybe getting one of my images in an upcoming issue.
She connected me to Nathaniel Rounds, the magazine’s editor. I contacted him via email … and he responded back. He liked my photos. I submitted two of my splitfilm images, including 88 Minutes in Chinatown.
A few days later, the editor told me that 88 Minutes in Chinatown would be accepted for the magazine’s next issue. Sweet.
Yesterday,I received an email that the newest issue of FFR has hit the internet. Here’s a QR code to view the publication.
Here’s a link to the publication.
I’m very pleased that my artwork has landed in another publication, and it actually encourages me to come up with something even more powerful – both for publication and for Competition Season 2024.
Once again, much thanks to Nathaniel Rounds and to Betty Aberlin. It’s the kind of good news that sometimes is few and far between in this world. :D
